KARENIN A
Premiered February 28 2022
Tyumen \ Tyumen Drama Theater
Melodrama based on the novel by Leo Tolstoy "Anna Karenina"
The play by Roman Gabria, written specifically for the Tyumen Bolshoi Drama Theater, is a theatrical staging of Leo Tolstoy's novel Anna Karenina. The play is based on a genuine Tolstoyan text and legendary characters: Alexei and Anna Karenin, Stiva and Dolly Oblonsky, Vronsky, Betsy Tverskaya...
Our performance is a look from a different angle on a well-known history. Anna's life will pass before the audience, seen through the eyes of a deceived spouse - Alexei Karenin. And another drama will be revealed - the love of a husband who is trying to defend his family, his happiness.
The image of Karenin in Leo Tolstoy is a man-machine, a high-ranking official, high-browed and insensitive. Director Roman Gabria removes this stereotype - in our performance, Alexei Karenin is human, we will see him in happiness and in suffering. We will see him for real, genuinely loving, offended by the fact that he was deceived.
Performance "Karenin A." is a story about a man who found the strength to forgive. Forgiveness does not limit anyone's freedom, does not divide people into right and wrong; it is a spiritual force that turns evil into good, jealousy into love, suffering into compassion...
